Pray and Sing!

Pray for Our Loved Ones . . . Our Veterans . . . Pray for Our World . . . Pray for Peace

. . . I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard

I felt the answer in my heart, although He spoke no word

I didn't ask for wealth or fame: I knew you wouldn't mind

I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven
Give us, this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

High Flight

by John Gillespie Magee Jr.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared
and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air ....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue

I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark nor ever eagle flew—

And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Eternal Father, Strong to Save
by William Whiting, 1860

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm does bind the restless wave,
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Savior, whose almighty word
The winds and waves submissive heard,
Who walked upon the foaming deep,
And calm amid the rage did sleep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Holy Spirit, who did brood
Upon the waters dark and rude,
And bid their angry tumult cease,
And give for wild confusion peace;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Trinity of love and pow'r,
Your children shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire, and foe,
Protect them where-so-e'er they go;
Thus, evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Lent Prayer for Strength & Guidance
Lord God Almighty, shaper and ruler of all creatures, we pray for your great mercy, that you guide us towards you,
for we cannot find our way.
And guide us to your will,
to the need of our soul, for we cannot do it ourselves and make our mind steadfast in your will and aware of our soul’s need. Amen

Lent is a holy and sacred time when we embark on a daily pilgrimage of faith meant to cleanse us, strengthen us, and spiritually prepare us for the Resurrection of Our Lord on Easter Sunday.

Prayer for Holy Week
Lord, look at me, accept my prayer as you accepted Peter's prayer,
and let me not run away from you in the night as Judas did.
Bless me, Lord, in this Holy Week, and give me the grace to know

your loving presence more intimately. Amen.

This Joyous Time of Year

May the glory and the promise of this joyous time of year bring peace and happiness to you and those you hold most dear.

And may Christ, Our Risen Savior, always be there by your side to bless you most abundantly and be your loving guide.               . . .  Author Unknown

"People Look East"
by Eleanor Farjeon

People, look east. The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the guest, is on the way.

Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare,
One more seed is planted there:
Give up your strength the seed to nourish,
That in course the flower may flourish.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the rose, is on the way.

Birds, though you long have ceased to build,
Guard the nest that must be filled.
Even the hour when wings are frozen
God for fledging time has chosen.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the bird, is on the way.

Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim
One more light the bowl shall brim,
Shining beyond the frosty weather,
Bright as sun and moon together.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the star, is on the way.

Angels, announce with shouts of mirth
Christ who brings new life to earth.
Set every peak and valley humming
With the word, the Lord is coming.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the Lord, is on the way.

Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah

by William Williams (1745)

Guide me, O my great Redeemer,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but you are mighty;
hold me with your powerful hand.

Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore,
feed me now and evermore.

Open now the crystal fountain,
where the healing waters flow.
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,
ever be my strength and shield,
ever be my strength and shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of death, and hell's Destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever sing to you,
I will ever sing to you.

William Williams, called the "Watts of Wales," was born in 1717, at Cefn-y-coed, near Llandovery, Carmarthenshire. He was ordained Deacon in the Church of England. For half a century he travelled in Wales, preaching the Gospel. He died in 1791. Williams composed his hymns chiefly in the Welsh language; they are still largely used by various religious bodies in the principality. Many of his hymns have appeared in English, and have been collected and published by Sedgwick. His two principal poetical works are "Hosannah to the Son of David," and "Gloria in Excelsis.

CHRISTMAS at KINGS COLLEGE of CAMBRIDGE
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was first held on Christmas Eve 1918. It was planned by Eric Milner-White, who at the age of thirty-four had just been appointed Dean of King’s after experience as an army chaplain which had convinced him that the Church of England needed more imaginative worship. Listen and/or view online each year to discover which boy chorister gets the chance to open the program with “Once in Royal David’s City”!

OurLadyofLourdes-statue.jpg

In The Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel, there is a prayer inscribed which reads:

Ever Immaculate Virgin Mother of Mercy, Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, Comforter of the afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings; look with mercy on me. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors; and already many sufferers have obtained the cure for their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal.
I come, therefore, with complete confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests. Through gratitude for your favors, I will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory. Amen.

Prayer for Healing
Be near me in my time of weakness and pain; sustain me by your grace, that my strength and courage may not fail; heal me according to your will; and help me always to believe that what happens to me here is of little account if you hold me in eternal life, my Lord and my God. Amen.

May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessing, slow to make enemies and quick to make friends

May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night and the road downhill all the way to your door

May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, the sunshine warm upon your face, may the rain fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand
.
